Stylish clothes for older women
Where can you find stylish clothes for women over 50? Unfortunately this is a question asked by many baby boomer women.
The good news is that retailers are starting to stock their stores with stylish, figure-flattering clothes that are not overly trendy.
The following 6 retailers offer a variety of stylish clothing and accessories for women over 50. A number of these sites even provide style tips and suggestions on how to mix and match their clothes for day and evening looks.
Chico's - This site has plenty of stylish clothing options. When you first arrive at their site, you quickly find helpful style tips from Chico's resident style expert Sher Canada. In fact, if you find a look that you like, they make it easy to just go ahead and buy the look. No searching all over the place trying to guess what blouse goes best with what pants. What a time saver!
Be sure to also check out their 'Travelers' section for a variety of wrinkle-free clothing and their 'New Arrivals' section which has their latest styles available. Also if you like, you can see their catalog for more style ideas.
Kohl's - Of all the clothing choices that Kohl's provides, my two favorite designers that have a nice selection of fashions for women over 50 are Dana Buchman and Vera Wang. Each collection has a variety of clothing, shoes, and accessories at budget-friendly prices.
Ann Taylor - Although Katie Holmes is their new spokesperson, don't let that fool you. This retailer has been a fashion mainstay for many women over 50.
If you're looking for fashion ideas, check out their 'Lookbook' which features ideas such as professional wardrobe ideas, a fashion forecast, and their 'Must-Have Looks' section featuring a variety of looks for different occasions.
J Jill - This retailer has a wonderful selection of stylish fashions in sizes to fit almost any woman - petite, misses, plus-size and even tall. Their clothing is well-made - I'm still wearing sweaters and pants that I bought in 2002. Timeless, yet youthful styling.
They also help their shoppers out by providing usual shopping sections like their 'J Jill Essentials' shop and their 'J Jill Wearever Collection'. Each of these give you plenty of ideas on how to stylishly pair up their clothes.
Macy's - With retail stores around the country, you're bound to find one near you. Although there's not much help in coordinating outfits online, they still have quite a few labels that are worth checking out. Some brands I especially like are Style&Co, DKNYC, Jones New York, and Lauren by Ralph Lauren.
JC Penney - Another well-known retailer with lots of stores throughout the U.S. Not as many stylish clothing choices for women over 50, however two collections to check out are Jones Wear ® and Liz Claiborne.
Although there are a few more choices out there, retailers still have a way to go in meeting the fashion needs of women over 50. A good start would be for more fashion models over 50 featured in online clothing stores. It's difficult for a mature woman to imagine what an outfit looks like on her if it's modeled by a 30 year old. Hopefully, retailers are listening.

This posting is in response to a question posted by a woman on October 9 in the parallel, yet vastly different universe (Women seeking Men). It concerned why after meeting a guy on a first date,... Wait I'll just quote her ad (it's easier AND her description is actually kind of hot): 'Imagine that you meet a woman who is intelligent, well spoken, beautiful, successful, stylish, witty and supremely sexy. We?re talking 36?24?36?, petite, firm, and proportionate. You have a fabulous date, she laughs at your jokes, is mischievously flirty and the tension between you and she is thrilling and undeniable
